and made some lunch to take with us. We also put on several more layers before heading out (after a tea break, of course). On day one, we followed a footpath up the side of a nearby hill:

It was still a bit cold, and there was snow on the ground. The mud had thawed though, so there were a couple times that we almost lost our shoes on the path.

It was a wonderful walk, and got sunnier as the day went on.

We reached the peak and stopped to take in the view, which was fantastic! We could see the entire valley, complete with the surrounding snow-capped hills.

The walk up and down was fun but steep, and there were a couple points that we slipped on the way down. Also, we heard some strange bird call that sounded like an alien that learned the phrase "C'mere"... it was a bit unsettling, actually. That and the frozen field mouse.

We got back to our room in the late afternoon and ate lunch: sandwiches stuffed full of salami and gouda, apples, tea, and biscuits. We then decided to make a fort next to the heater/window and read for the rest of the night.

The best part was being able to see the stars when it got dark. It was the most comfortable bed, too, so we both woke up ready for another day of walking. On day two, we decided to follow the Pennine Way across the valley. We walked through the town first, along with a bunch of other hikers (crocus pics for you, mumma).

We went through an over-grown path right next to some very shaggy cows.

We decided to keep going across rather than up. Good choice.

And some more good pics...

After our morning walk, we headed back to a cafe for some tea before the train ride back. The cafe had turkeys outside. We made an early train and had another lunch of overstuffed sandwiches (yum). After getting home, I took a nap and was just exhausted for the next couple days. Totally and completely worth it, though!
